Stars, Lucy and Darren Walker, of the hit DIY Network and HGTV Show Louisiana Flip N Move did an exclusive interview with Home & Life Magazine The Estate Center and they revealed their secrets...
Their Family Motto: “Do it scared!”
Lucy and Darren started out with very humble beginnings before landing their spot on the hit television show Louisiana Flip and Move. At the age of 20, Darren purchased his first home at the prodding of Lucy’s father. Darren said, “Lucy’s father told me if I wanted to marry his daughter I had to prove I could take care of her by buying a home.” His first humble abode had no working sinks and he and his new bride washed their hands and brushed their teeth in the tub for a year. After two years of marriage, they were forced to rent out their home and rent a room from Lucy’s parents. Reflecting on those days Lucy said,
“It was embarrassing. We’ve come a long way from those days. I’m so glad we didn’t give up! “
Their faith is what gave them the courage and strength to persevere through the hard times. They held on to Zachariah 4:10 “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” Lucy said their first “Do it scared” was purchasing, “Blighted properties on blighted streets in highly questionable neighborhoods that made you uneasy with safety.” With those investments paying off, they took another leap of faith by listing one of their rental properties located in a questionable neighborhood, as an Airbnb. “Our tenant left without warning leaving us with a roach infested, damaged place,” Lucy recalled. Lucy and Darren put in hours of work and thousands of dollars repairing the property but not in vain. Immediately the property began bringing in $4,500 per month instead of $750 a month in rent. This fortune enabled them to save enough money to become millionaires by the time they were twenty-seven, design and build their dream home by the age of thirty, and land a spot on the hit television show Louisiana Flip N Move.
